When rafting on shallow rivers with steep inclines, a two-person catamaran is a more manageable and stable two-person rafting craft than canoes and kayaks. However, if you need to hike before starting the rafting, carrying the frame of a conventional catamaran is labor-intensive and inconvenient. The Tarpan catamaran, whose frame consists of just one crossbar, is a hybrid of our popular Mustang catamaran and a bottomless raft. The crossbar is a three-piece aluminum pipe, the outer sections of which are integrated with the tubes. To assemble the catamaran, simply connect the middle section of the crossbar to the outer sections with two bolts and wing nuts and inflate the three sections. For transport, the catamaran folds into a 75x40x20 cm package and takes up approximately two-thirds the volume of a standard 100-liter backpack. The rowers sit astride tubes, just like in the Mustang, with their heels resting on the crossbar and their knees and back secured with adjustable straps. The raft-like stern makes it easier to negotiate holes and the boat's short length makes maneuvering through "rock gardens" easier.
